The Dolphins not only lost to the Ravens on Sunday 27-13, but they were beat up by an offense led by former coach Cam Cameron. Ouch! The Cameron comeback to South Florida was a huge storyline all week, and it’s clear it was on Cameron’s mind. Cam has always been that respectful guy with the talent to politely not answer your tough questions. On Sunday, he let his previously struggling offense do the talking. Still, when it was all said and done, Cameron got a gatorade bath and was smiling from ear to ear. You don’t think it meant much to him?
I could sit here and rip Cameron all day, but I’ve done that so many times on this blog that it would just be boring. I’ll give Cameron his time to shine because it’s about the only time he’s been able to celebrate over the last couple of years. We all know he didn’t do that much with the Dolphins. Come to think of it, he did it one time and the Ravens were also on the field that day. Okay, so instead of ripping Cam, let’s get to the real problem: the Dolphins.
So many of Miami’s problems were showcased in this game that’s it’s easy to see for Dol-fans why the whole turnaround and playoff talk was so premature. I am going to sound like a broken record, but the Dolphins have no big play receivers and a terrible secondary. These are things we’ve all known since before the season, but opposing teams are now figuring out how bad those two groups really are. It also didn’t help that tackle Jason Ferguson went out in the first half with an injury. His absence was felt throughout the 2nd half as the Ravens just seemed to run at will up the middle. That said, Miami’s secondary also let rookie QB Joe Flacco pass at will. The kid was 17-23 for over 230 yards and a touchdown! That’s right. A rookie who had been really struggling of late dissected the Fins defense with ease.
Meantime, the Fins run game struggled. You have to give credit to a Ravens defense that is just plain nasty against the run, but think about it, if you were an opposing defensive coordinator, what would you game plan for against the Dolphins? Would you even worry about the receivers? Nope! Right now Chad Pennington can only flip some passes to Patrick Cobbs and his tight ends most of the time. Greg Camarillo is the only Fins receiver who will consistently catch passes, but he’s more of a slot or possession guy. You need a guy like that on your team, but he can only be really effective when you have some play-makers.
Which takes this lengthy blog back to Cam Cameron. You’re probably asking why. Well, it was Cam in all his genius who took Ted Ginn Jr with the 9th overall pick in the 1st round. Yes, Cam thought Ginn would be that play-maker to stretch the field. Instead, he’s the guy that stretches on the field before the game but doesn’t make plays. Cam promised a special talent. Good call Cam. Actually, most of us remember how Cameron said the Dolphins were getting Ginn’s family too. If only that were true Cam. Maybe one of them could have been a weapon down the field.
the sloppy tackling and the inability to convert 3rd downs and stop them on 3rd and long cost us the game. Overall disappointing loss.
Cam Cameron seemed to be glowing and hamming it up after the game yesterday as if he was Julius Caesar and had just crossed the Rubicom conquering the villain Dolphins. I hated everything that Cameron did here. Even to the last game when he started Lemon instead of Beck and held Ginn back even when they were winless for all those games.
Cameron should not glow and look at some of the things that take place in which he played a negative hand.
